Mistakes and Miracles

Mistake: We’ll just zip tie it!

So if you read any part of my About Me page you know I’m a single mom…and to break up the real estate talk I also want to share with you some of my go to’s when it comes to keeping my sanity and running my business. First up! My Hamilton Beach Counter Top Oven.

If you have tweens/teens….this will save your life.

Last year my ex-husband (i.e. my girls) bought me this for Christmas. Now, this isn’t like the vacuum cleaner gift you get that you smile and politely nod at..this was a dream come true!

We tend to eat fairly healthy around here…don’t get me wrong, as a person who finds their calm making an amazing meal in the kitchen with a glass of wine and soulful music on, we indulge too. But what I can’t do is make gourmet snacks for these growing teenagers and their friends anytime they want one.

Prepping for Homecoming 2018…and they ate a lot of food in the process!

My kids will get down on some pizza rolls, frozen burritos, frozen pizza, and anything else that is breaded or Mexican. But for a while they tricked me into making snacks for them because “whaaaaa they might get burned by the oven”! Well they have no problem with using the microwave and this little gem is almost just like that. So now when they want a snack, or to toast some bread, or I just need another rack in the oven this thing is a MIRACLE!

It also comes with a rotisserie attachment and I’ve been afraid to use it…I guess just because. But since I’ve vowed to start doing a lot more clean eating around here I opted to cook a chicken myself instead of picking one up at the grocery store.

First, don’t be scared! You can do this…a whole chicken is not only cost effective but when you cook it yourself the chemicals and flavors injected into the chicken are missing and you can season it to your heart and stomachs desire!

I may have been slightly ambitious but I was determined. So after figuring out how to actually use the attachment and searching for the right spices to season this bad boy, I realized I don’t have any butcher’s twine. Well if you’re anything like me you have a few “phone a friend” contacts in your phone when a problem arrises. After talking it through “we” thought it would probably be fine with out it. And about 15 minutes later I realized my MISTAKE! Like a scalding hot what am I going to do now mistake.

Over the years I have come to realize one thing about most of the hats I wear, whether it’s mom, Realtor, and of course brokerage owner, all I really do is solve problems. Sometimes you have to get creative, and other times you reach way back to the two things that will fix most things in your life….Zip Ties & Duct Tape!

So this scalding hot mistake had a couple chicken wings flopping around and pushing my dripping pan all over my miracle oven…so what’s a woman to do? We grabbed those little wings, I have the burn to prove it, and we zip tied them together. Worked like a champ and the bird was done in about an hour and a half! Disclaimer…zip ties are plastic…don’t eat it! but we don’t eat the wings anyway.

See how well that little zip tie worked on those wings! Winning!

So whether it’s a chicken or a wobbly cabinet at an open house (read more about fixing those here)…remember, you’re a problem solver and you’ve got this! Just don’t forget to throw the zip ties and duct tape in your trunk before you head out!

Here’s the finished product! YUMMM!!! Click here to get yours today!
