Mistakes and Miracles

Just Popping By…

The other day I was talking with a group of Realtors about building their database and lead generation systems. Pop-by’s kept Popping UP. (pun intended)

For many years the idea of “pop-bys” for your past clients and sphere has circulated in many training classes, coaching courses, etc.

I’m not going to discount this as a way to create goodwill or stay top of mind with your sphere but I challenged my agents to think about it a little differently and I wanted to share this with you too.

Lead generation activities should be for the sole purpose of “meeting” new people and adding them to our database to market to them consistently, build a relationship with them and help them sell or buy their home when they are ready, and of course, get referral business as well.

But how can we use creativity in pop by’s to meet new people and generate new business?

How about popping by for the purpose of meeting new people and being a resource to them.

For instance, my insurance agent and I have a great friendship and over the years he has referred business to me. Of course, every time I receive a referral I take him a referral gift and a thank you…yes I always hand deliver this. For one reason! There is always someone in his office and let’s not forget all the wonderful people that work for him.

So when I take him a thank you gift, I make sure to have some “pop by” like items in my bag for everyone else. They are always so grateful to get a little something and I’ve had some really great conversations at the same time. Then I take their business card, add them to my database and start building a relationship with them.

Think about all the places you go on a weekly or monthly basis that you could capitalize on “popping by” as a lead generation source.

  • doctors office
  • kids school
  • hair salon
  • ever drive by a fire station?
  • pet groomer

As you can see the list goes on and on, you just need to think a little creative with your message and make sure that once you start you keep doing it. Once is a surprise..more than once and I guarantee they’ll remember you!

One of the places I look for timely and creative Pop-By’s is on Pinterest. You can check out my board here, or do your own search too!
