Mistake: Get Your Own Grind
A couple of things I pride myself on when it comes to working with agents is my accessibility to them anytime and that I whole heartedly believe coaching with them, one on one, not only makes a difference in their business but helps me build amazing relationships with them. I get to know them on a more personal level and really understand the motivation behind their goals. When I dig a little deeper, often times I’ll run into fears or negative thought patterns that often hold them back too…and when you can help them conquer those, you build a relationship that spans far beyond a normal agent/brokerage relationship
So today I coached with one of my newer agents. He’s fairly new to the industry but as soon as I met him I knew he had a drive that isn’t always common. Before he came to me he had been coaching with a couple of top industry coaches but often felt like he was spinning his wheels and not gaining any ground. I have nothing at all against some of the top coaching companies in our industry…I’ve seen amazing results from them. The problem this agents was having though was two fold.
- The coach didn’t get to “know” him…didn’t understand his personal goals and probably didn’t have a clear grasp of this agents market or sphere of influence.
- In the three months my agent worked with this coach they never once circled back around to what was working and what wasn’t working and tweaked the program from there. I’m a firm believer in the fundamentals but you have to be willing to go off script a little bit to make it work for the particular agent you have in front of you…or on the phone as was this case.
So today we got to work..this is what the whiteboard looked like after we finished a one-hour session…needless to say he was a little
I’ll talk more about this plan in other posts but I want to talk about the title of this post. “Get Your Own Grind”. I teach and coach to what I know and what I know works. But I’m not arrogant enough to think I don’t have to tweak it every once in a while. But what I can’t do…is give you the GRIND.
You’ve got to come with it…you’ve got to take the knowledge, advice and support that you are given and make it work by adding some grind!
Here are the top things I see that hold back most of my agents before they start coaching with me.
- Lack of confidence
- Fear of rejection
- Poor time management skills
- Will not ask for the business
- Looking for (or trying to buy in most cases) the magic pill.
- Not understanding we are in a lead generation business first. Our reward for that hard work is getting to help people buy and sell homes and build dreams.
Once you are able to understand and overcome the fears you have, you will find renewed drive and energy and be able to have focus fueled by GRIND. Whether you are new to real estate or experienced and having some set-backs I would encourage you to find a coach, mentor or support system that can peel your onion layers back with you and give you the freedom from whatever reluctance or fear you’re carrying that won’t allow you to fully embrace getting outside of your comfort zone.
Oh and that magic pill you’re looking for? Here it is!
