Mistakes and Miracles

Miracle: Get Inspired by Girl Code

I’ve always enjoyed reading, and if it is a really good book I could knock it out over a weekend sometimes. Now I should say this was pre-children and pre-social media all over my phone all the time!

What I realized last year was that I was getting my news, sometimes my friend conversations, and easily my entertainment from short clips on whatever social media platform I happened to be perusing at the time.

I don’t hate social media at all, I actually like it quite a bit and using it in real estate has benefits that reach far beyond traditional marketing methods. But there is something about a book…reading and learning and for me, having a little forced quiet time.

So when I started my journey to opening up my real estate brokerage my friend Kim gave me this book. Girl Code by Cara Alwill.

Here’s a quote from the book that is exactly how I felt reading the book!

“Believe in divine timing and know that what’s for you will not pass you.”

Cara Alwill

I remember when I talked to some of my friends and family about this idea to open my own brokerage and how excited I was. There were a lot of people who were “polite” excited. You know what I’m talking about right? The people who are “So happy for you!” “You’re going to do great!” “I’ve got your back!”…that kind. I’m sure the sentiment was real, but there was underlying doubt too…or if you read this book, you’ll learn of a couple more possibilities as well.

Here is what I learned the most. My dear friend who was genuinely excited for me and works with me at the brokerage today, gave me a huge gift, not just this book, but that she read the book to and wanted to make sure that she was passing on and living what she learned, “Strong women empower other women.”

“You know a woman is strong, beautiful, and secure by the way she empowers and inspires others.”

Cara Alwill

The next thing I learned is that there is divine timing in everything…I mean everything! Sometimes you need to do something really hard to shake up the foundation you’ve built your life on. And when that foundation shakes, sometimes parts of your life you thought were solid were actually the first to crack. And that’s ok! It still sucks a little bit…but it’s ok.

My foundation cracked, I was feeling less than empowered for sure, and God removed things and people from my life at the time I thought I needed them most. But he also replaced the lost things with authentic relationships, stronger family bonds, and a renewed foundation built securely on my faith in Jesus.

So I’m living the Girl Code: empowering and inspiring as many people as I can and praying that through divine timing, I will be placed in their path right when they need me.
