Forget Flowers…Show Your Business Plan Some Love!
Valentine’s Day is looming near…did you forget that special someone? No worries, all of the “crap, I forgot tents” are being constructed in your local grocery store parking lots as I type. If you’re like me though, one of your true loves is your real estate business and you shouldn’t overlook it.
Valentine’s week is halfway through the 1st quarter of the year and it should be a time to pull that business plan you worked on last year out of the desk drawer and give it a good once over. If you didn’t do a business plan for this year, you still have time to make a romantic reservation for you and your business and put one together.
Without regular check-ups or progress tracking, sometimes your business plan can become an abstract idea and not an actual plan to meet your yearly goals. Let’s take a look at some of the key things you should be evaluating this month.
- It’s February, and if you created a business plan with a specific goal of gross revenue or units sold how are your sales so far? Example: I need to sell 24 homes this year. If you haven’t closed at least 3 by this week, or at least have 4 scheduled closings, you are potentially falling behind. What do you need to do to make up for lost time?
- Here’s the good news, if you find yourself a little behind you are heading into the spring and summer market. This doesn’t give you the excuse to write off the last month and a half, but it does give you the opportunity to re-evaluate your marketing and lead generation plans and turn up the heat a bit to make it happen in Q2.
- During your business planning last year, did you identify key lead generation activities or marketing programs that you needed to grow in order to support your increased income or unit goals? How has that been going? I know sometimes things we have planned to do or expand upon can often seem like not a big priority in January but then it becomes February and we still haven’t given them their appropriate attention. Take a look at those plans again and schedule a time to have them implemented within the next two week. Most of the time new lead generation activities or marketing plans take time to establish and a fair amount of consistency to see results.
- Don’t beat yourself up…and by all means, don’t give up! Please take a look at your business plans and goals and remember why you set them in the first place then get to work! You can do this and if you need a little help or direction then reach out to colleagues, coaches, or your broker for some assistance. By the way, you can always reach out to me via email or any social media platform and I’ll help answer any questions I can.
Take a moment and show your real estate business some love this week and you’ll be surprised how much of a difference you can make for the rest of the year if you do. Oh…and working on your business is never a good excuse for forgetting your Valentine…you still have time to make reservations, order flowers and at a bare minimum run to the nearest grocery stores parking lot!
