Miracle: 4 Tips For Passing Your Real Estate Exam.
So you’ve decided that getting a real estate license is the best career path or “side hustle” for you. Congratulations!
I’m going to be honest with you about the “side hustle” thing though. Unless you are doing this as a hobby or for your own personal real estate investments, I’m not a supporter of the part-time agent. Nothing wrong with it…I guess, but I’ve never really seen it turn out well.
What I have seen is agents who start part time with a clear goal of moving to full time agent status and replacing their current income within a set amount of time, can and do make their dream of real estate as a full time career a reality.
Now that you’ve decided that real estate is the perfect career path for you I’m going to give you a few
First and foremost you’re going to need to research your state’s requirements for licensing. That should be fairly easy. Here in Texas you just need to go to the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) read my blog post 5 Things You Should Know About Getting Your Real Estate License for more information.
The next step will be to find the best avenue for you to get your education requirements filled. You can do this in a classroom setting, online and sometimes a combination of both. There are even schools now that will allow you to attend a live class while in your living room.
One thing to remember prior to choosing your education delivery style is that you are an adult learner, with adult responsibilities and scheduling conflicts. Be honest with yourself when you make the decision. Often times online classes look more attractive because I can fit them into my schedule and they tend to be more economical. But if you aren’t retaining the information then it’s not going to work out well. On the other hand, sitting through a couple hour class every night after working all day and taking care of your family may prove to be a challenge also.
Now that you’ve decided how you are going to take your classes, let me give you a couple tips about the learning process.
- The information you are learning is important, however, you are being taught the information for one reason only…to pass the final exam. Ok, that’s not the only reason but it’s the biggest reason.
- If you are the type of person that needs to know “why” the answer is the answer…STOP IT! I promise you will just be spinning your wheels and making things a tad bit more difficult. Commit what you are learning to short term memory. Once I passed my exam the only math I needed to know was how to calculate commission percentages 😉
- Vocabulary is the key! You will hear that the exams try to confuse you or mess you up with wordplay. That’s probably true…you will have a few questions like that. But I promise you…If you know your vocabulary you will do just fine!
- This is a multiple choice test. Remember what you learned in elementary school. One answer is completely wrong, …disregard that one and focus on the best answer from there. If all else fails, choose “B”. And don’t blame me if that doesn’t work!
Good Luck! And remember…”You’ve Got This!”
